An amazing essay by John Hockenberry, a former Dateline reporter, in Tech Review on the farce that goes by the name of 'breaking news' especially in the U.S. media (not that others are far behind) which seems to be so obsessed with hitting the "emotional center" (complete with sentimental/heroic/inspirational background music as the case may be) to the extent that the real truth is often obfuscated or something completely irrelevant to the issue is presented....definitely a must read (warning: it is a bit longish...so hang in there).
