On charity

Anuradha Bakshi at projectwhy writes on how callous some people can be when they perceive themselves as some sort of superhuman do-gooders just because they donated loads of things that they no longer have any use for...nor does anyone else for that matter.

Now that I think about it , I have also been guilty of probably doing something similar in the past. This issue struck a chord with me because it has come up a few times in some discussions I have been involved in, in the recent past, when people suggest donating old computers or books to kids and schools who cannot afford to buy these things. As she rightly puts it in her post,"Is it that.... the so called poor will accept anything with gratitude, that they have no right to feel humiliated or angered"

I guess it is time we move beyond the "something is better than nothing" mentality and pause and think for a moment if our actions really make a difference or are simply to assuage our guilt.

And more recently, you have been attempting to dump multiple box graters, ladles, and other kitchen implements on your buddy.. :P (jk lah..)

On a serious note, I agree. Treating people, underprivileged or not, with dignity and self-respect is very important.
